The torch has been passed.

Since I was a little girl I have the most vivid memories of my Aunt Marla's coupon box. This is not your traditional coupon box. The box is approximately 8x8x3 and it has it's own denim bag. Inside the box are tabbed dividers that range from "cheese and dairy" to "cat food and litter". The coupon box sits in the child safety seat and as Marla walks the isle's she pulls coupons for the products that she buys and she lays the coupons in the lid of the box. Sometimes she will find a stack of abandoned coupons sitting on a shelf and she will let out a joyful noise as she picks up the coupons and thumbs through them on her way down the isle.
The coupons are, at times, more important than the children. Each of her three children can remember a time when the coupon box was spilled and child abuse was contemplated.
Her mother feeds this disease by sending her coupons. When I came back from Kansas I brought a large manilla envelope with coupons back for Marla.
While this disease is funny to tease her about, we all benefit from it. She will buy things in bulk if she gets a really good deal and the boys will receive care packages full of goodies. This week it was Nabisco snack packs at $.50 a box!! Her receipts are generall no shorter than two feet and the amount that she saves is almost always double what she spends. She is truly dedicated to her calling as a coupon clipper.
Today marks a proud moment in the Trosper family. Shawn, AKA Baby Precious, just called to tell Marla that he spent $12.42 at Kroger and that he saved $10.51. The tradition is being passed on. Someday when Marla is no longer able to lift the coupon box into the child safety seat of the shopping cart, we will all take comfort knowing that Shawn has been training to take over the reigns.
Later bargain shoppers.

I hate my religion teacher!

This is a post about my religion teacher. I am not fond of his teaching method. At the beginning of class we were given a syllabus, on that syllabus was a term paper, a five page minimum term paper. ALL SEMESTER we have been saying, "Mr. Teacher what about the term paper? What do you want on the term paper?" and ALL SEMESTER he has said. "Oh yeah I will talk to you about that." Today we asked again and he said, "What, I didn't talk to you about that already? I'm sorry I would have talked to you about that five or six weeks ago. Well, the due date has been moved from May 5th to May 3rd...." So I have a week and a half to write a FIVE PAGE term paper. It is not a normal week and a half, oh no, it is the last week and a half of school. I have a Spanish test, a Math test, an English paper, a Spanish final, a Math final, a Religion final AND a FIVE PAGE research paper due. Plus I have to find time to eat, sleep, manage a coffee bar, bring bras to the masses.... oh yeah and breathe!

Welcome to college!

Oscar Review

Before I went to Kansas I saw Phantom of the Opera at Allen Theatre. It was a good movie not great but good. I will stand high on my soap box and say that the actor's did not seem to have a grasp on the raw emotion that the Phantom of the Opera needs to be. The male leads did not have the voices to carry their parts and the people in the row behind me kept kicking my seat.

Before the movie though, the manager said that they would be showing all of the movies that were nominated for Best Picture at the Oscar's.

The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Ray
Sideways, and the winner
Million Dollar Baby

Of these I have seen Finding Neverland and Ray. Last night Krista and Adam rented Sideways. That was a horrible movie. I like Sandra Oh and Virginia Madsen but that did not redeem the movie. I can't even formulate my thoughts on this movie to tell you why I hated it so much.

Tonight, however, Pernille and I went to see Million Dollar Baby. Wow, Hilary Swank has an amazing ability to choose and play only the best roles (if we try not to hold Karate Kid 4 against her). This movie had the perfect mixture of suspense, humor, emotion and amazing acting. Just when you had no idea what was going to happen next they threw in an option you couldn't have even fathomed. Then on top of all that they threw in Morgan Freeman as the narrator and guy that got to gut check Clint Eastwood. Walk, no run to your movie theatre or Blockbuster and get this movie!!!
